Hawaii – A fire in a building on the University of Hawaii’s campus in Honolulu created large plumes of smoke that affected residents within the surrounding area and prompted evacuations on Sunday.
The Hawaii State Chapter deployed Disaster Action Team members, opened a shelter and provided assistance as needed for affected-area residents.

North Carolina – Cold weather and a power outage affected hundreds of residents in Henderson County on Sunday.
Disaster Action Team members from the Henderson County Chapter opened a warming center / shelter for residents within the affected area. The shelter closed hours later.

Disaster Alert: Brush Fire in Hawaii

Hawaii – A brush fire in Kona prompted the evacuation of some residents yesterday. The fire was later contained and residents went back to their homes.
The Hawaii State Chapter opened a shelter for the affected residents and provided dinner; the shelter was later closed and residents were allowed back to their homes.
